Free as wind: addicted to travel and independence from the world

People tend to complain about their lives, living conditions, poor service, etc. As a rule, this is the answer to the question “How are you doing?”

If truth be told, it seems to me that things can be perceived much better if you look at them from a different angle.

I have one good recipe for those who are used to complaining about everyday life and are tired of the environment – travel!

“When something good happens, drive up to celebrate it.
If something bad happens, travel to forget it.
If nothing happens, travel for something to happen.”

Perhaps this advice may look banal, and most will immediately say that it is expensive, and on top of that this pandemic, tests, vaccines, etc. But I suggest that people start looking not for obstacles, but for ways of implementation or a comfortable travel format.

My format is bikepacking trips. You generally don’t need a company to relax. Especially if you are tired of people and surroundings. And, of course, you don’t need a lot of money, because the bike doesn’t ask to eat, and if you get hungry yourself, all you have to do is make a fire and cook something with your own hands. This is where the real independence begins, which everyone appreciates, but in fact few have truly experienced. All I need to do to hit the road is to shape a route, put my bags on the frame, and grab some food and warm clothes. Right from this moment I am free!

“After all, bikepacking suits him. This is all you need to travel off road. A touring bike is good on tarmac or packed dirt, but fatbikes are beyond competition where the roar ends.”

Do we need much to feel happy? The question is rhetorical. For some people the measure is money, for someone – other material values. But happiness itself is in the moment when you experience it. It’s just worth thinking about it for a while. In general, people are used to thinking that happiness is something outstanding that can’t be missed in any way. However, if you ask a person if he or she feels happy you will most likely hear some kind of memories of the past. That is, the person experienced it, and only then realized that at that moment he or she was happy. My philosophy is different: Is it worth putting all the effort and time into achieving result, or perhaps the process itself is more important?

“Sometimes a break from your routine is the very thing you need. Travel is about finding those things, you never knew you were looking for”.

What are you dreaming about? Surely it is some material things or plans related to some exotic destinations, for which you must save up a lot of money in advance, and if it does not work out, then circumstances are to blame. Just try sorting out your thoughts… Perhaps it’s not worth spending a lot of effort and energy on what you have planned? Maybe you just need to get out of town in the countryside, breathe in the fresh air, sit in silence and look around. I always return full of energy and refreshed even from local travels.

“But the most beautiful things in life are not stuff. They are people, places, memories, and pictures. They are fillings, moments, smiles, and laughter.”

Nature always deserves our attention. It lets you examine yourself in detail, take everything you need, and yet takes nothing in return. These, you could say, tactile sensations inspire me and do not leave superfluous thoughts in my head exactly until I return to normal life.

“I open the tent zipper about ten o’clock in the morning, and in this very moment the sun rays get through the tree branches and on my sleepy face. I close my eyes and keep on lying until the sun again hides behind the tree crowns. A cool morning full of sounds of the forest with the clear blue sky shining above.”

And probably it is not necessary to tell more about myself, because everyone has one’s own way and we choose it for ourselves. But I’m sure there are no significant circumstances making it impossible to indulge in travel, at least locally. And this is the easiest way to independence, at least temporarily, and that happiness that everyone expects, but is afraid to take a step towards. After all, happiness is every moment when you feel joy and harmony with yourself. But it is achieved only when you move forward.
